It's a person. Origianlly, William Strunk Jr., Professor of English at Princeton Univeristy around the turn of the 20th Century, co-author of a famous guide to proper English usage, Strunk & White's The Elements of Style .
In this context, a nickname for a friend of mine, 'cause it's part of his e-mail address.

Happy belated birthday - belated for stepping out when things start spinning . . ., and don't get one of the weird or old editions. There is one specific edition that was put out some 25ish years ago that had a number of re-edits that was supposedly based on JJ's edits, but Joyce scholars being overeager challenged almost everyone of them.
The vintage paperback is always a favorite . . . but it's a paperback . . . NAL has one but since the AL stands for American Library, you might have some trouble picking up the right one.
NB looking for amazon.ie jumps to amazon.co.uk and on the co.uk site, there's no hardcover edition.
